Robert Williams III Makes Stunning NBA Comeback After Injury...

Boston Celtics center Robert Williams III has made a dramatic return to the court after missing nearly a full season due to knee surgery. The 28-year-old defensive anchor played 22 minutes in last night's playoff game against the Miami Heat, blocking three shots and grabbing seven rebounds in a 112-108 Celtics victory.

Williams' return comes at a crucial moment for the Eastern Conference contenders as they push for their first NBA championship since 2008. Fans erupted when he checked into the game during the second quarter at TD Garden, marking his first competitive minutes since undergoing arthroscopic surgery last September.

The athletic big man, nicknamed "Time Lord" for his uncanny ability to contest shots, immediately impacted the game with his signature rim protection. His presence helped Boston limit Miami to just 42% shooting in the paint, a significant improvement from their regular season averages.

Williams' comeback is trending nationwide as basketball analysts debate how much he can elevate the Celtics' championship odds. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported this morning that Williams has been cleared for increased minutes moving forward, though the team will monitor his workload carefully.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla told reporters after the game: "Rob changes everything for us defensively. Having that vertical spacing and communication back there allows us to play more aggressively on the perimeter." Teammate Jayson Tatum added, "He's our safety net. When you know Time Lord is behind you, you can take more risks."

The Louisiana native's health has been a recurring storyline since Boston drafted him 27th overall in 2018. Despite his injury history, Williams signed a four-year, $54 million extension in 2021 that now looks like a bargain given his defensive impact. Basketball Reference data shows the Celtics allow 8.2 fewer points per 100 possessions when he's on the floor.

With Boston facing a potential second-round matchup against either Milwaukee or Philadelphia, Williams' timing couldn't be better. The Celtics currently have +450 championship odds at DraftKings, the second-best in the league behind Denver. Their next game is Friday night in Miami for Game 3 of the first-round series.
