FDA Warns Against Foundayo Weight Loss Pill Amid Safety Concerns...

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public warning today about Foundayo, an over-the-counter weight loss supplement gaining viral attention on social media. The agency flagged "potentially dangerous" undisclosed ingredients, including a prescription-strength stimulant linked to heart risks.

Foundayo surged in popularity this month after TikTok influencers promoted it as a "natural" alternative to Ozempic. Searches for the pill spiked 480% in the past week, according to Google Trends data. Multiple users reported hospitalizations for irregular heartbeat and severe nausea after taking the supplement.

"This product poses significant health risks," said FDA Commissioner Dr. Robert Califf in a statement released April 6. Laboratory tests revealed Foundayo contains sibutramine, a controlled substance banned in the U.S. since 2010 due to stroke and heart attack risks.

Amazon and Walmart removed Foundayo listings within hours of the FDA alert. The agency confirmed it's working with the Department of Justice to investigate the manufacturer, identified as Utah-based NutraPure Labs. No recall has been issued yet.

Nutrition experts warn the incident highlights ongoing dangers in the unregulated supplement market. "When something trends this fast, consumers often bypass basic safety checks," said Harvard Medical School's Dr. Pieter Cohen. The FDA advises anyone who purchased Foundayo to discontinue use immediately and consult a physician.

Lawsuits are already emerging, with a class action filed in California yesterday alleging false advertising and consumer harm. The case could test new FDA powers under the 2023 Supplement Safety Act, which increased penalties for adulterated products.

This marks the seventh weight loss supplement warning issued by the FDA in 2026. Agency records show supplement-related emergency room visits rose 22% last year, with weight loss products accounting for nearly a third of cases.
